Fresh Concrete:
Why is fresh concrete a superior product? Concrete is a combination of inert materials (sand and rock which are referred to as "aggregate", and serve as a filler), and a paste composed of cement and water, which changes from a semi-liquid substance into a solid binder as a result of chemical reactions between water and various compounds in the cement. This process begins immediately after the mixing of all ingredients. Ready-mix concrete is mixed together at a batch plant and transported by truck in a rotating drum to the job site; therefore the curing process is already underway during travel time. This minimized the time available for finishing, and in some cases, requires the addition of extra water to maintain concrete with enough fluidity for pouring, which reduces it's strength. Because Frontier Mobile Mix concrete is mixed right at the job site, not at a Ready Mix or U-cart plant, your concrete is always fresh. It also has a more plastic texture for superior workability, and allows you the maximum finishing time. Unlike ready-mix, there is no need to add extra water to keep it fluid, assuring you the correct strength your job requires.
Our Mixes:
All orders are custom mixed on site. Our trucks mix standard specifications of 2500 PSI-5000PSI and we also make Duck Mix (1 sack-extra weak CDF) and Michigan Mix standard concrete rock, we also have pea gravel available upon request.
Air Entrainment:
All our mixes are chemically air-entrained with a chemical called plastihyd. This means microscopic bubbles are introduced into the fluid concrete allowing expansion and contraction of the hardened concrete. This provides increased resistance to temperature changes (freezing and thawing) and minimizes cracking. Air-entrainment also greatly improves workability, giving semi-liquid concrete a "creamy" look and feel. Less water is required in all mixes, and the billions of air bubbles (400-600 billion per cubic yard) reduce "bleeding" (separation of the water from the paste), resulting in a more durable concrete.
Slump:
The term "slump" refers to the fluidity or stiffness of semi-liquid concrete. Unlike ready-mix, our truck operator controls the amount of water being added to your mix as it is being delivered, assuring you the slump you desire.
Hot Water:
Hot water is often used during the winter months to provide better workability and prevent freezing so finishing can be completed properly.
Concrete in cold weather :
Some concrete companies choose to add calcium or a calcium substite to concrete in the cold winter months. Frontier Ready Mix chooses not to comprimise the strength of your concrete by adding such things. This does however mean that we will not pour concrete when the temperature reaches 35 degrees or below. When concrete is poured in cold weather we recomend using insulated concrete blankets or thick plastic with straw over the top to prevent the concrete from freezing before it cures. Concrete will have been poured with hot water so it will stay warm and generate some of its own heat if these steps are followed.
Concrete Coupons:
Frontier Ready-Mix has at times published coupons for our concrete. These coupons are available for customers to use prior to their expiration date. Coupons are not able to be used in conjunction with other offers or coupons (only one coupon available per address and per customer in a 6 month time). We offer the highest quality concrete without the additional charges that are common with most U-cart companies and Ready Mix companies. Frontier Ready-Mix will accept Coupons from Frontier Mobile Mix and most other competitors. For those who preffered the Frontier Mobile Mix pricing system, we will honor those prices upon request through December 31, 2008.
